I Despise Your Fly, Flyy Chick & Ms. Berry

Nah, this "flyy chick" of which I speak of is NOT Teyana. I'm talkin' bout that FLYY CHICK to her right. All black everything && it's definitely channelling a 'cat woman' revamped. Flyy Chick, you BETTER!

Halle did it so well that I had to post her. I mean how could I not? With just a simple silk blouse, tights, medium-length coat, and faint jewelry she is GIVING IT to us. I'm not worried about turnin' anything over 30 when Halle proves it can STILL be done!

All is well in the neighborhood. :)

What has Nicki Minaj done for YOU lately...

A video taken from The Fury of a little boy performing Nicki Minaj's verse of "5 Star Remix" has me thinking a lot of things. I admit, I did laugh but, that little boy is damaged now. Seriously.

One reader on the site said,"I bet you AJ dont even know how to spell his name." And I bet she's right.

Cute video but, I'm smh at the same time.

---"On to the next one".

Dirty $$$ (Money): "Love Come Down" Video

I didn't expect this video to turn out as it did, but then again, they ARE that Dirty Moneeey! I'm so on this that I could never be off (the train to Paris, that is)! If you hate this now, I'm tellin' you give it a chance. Don't compare it to what it should have been but, watch it for what it is. Besides, this video is what I needed from Dirty Money. I don't want the typical video. I want THIS. I want to be confused for a second, as I was actually, and then at the end say to myself, "Oh, that's hott!"

The beginning lost me for a moment but, that chorus brought it back home. I can digg this.

Beyonce Visits "The Sphinx" in Egypt

I thought this was pretty interesting because I'm taking an Art History course this semester, and I know what "The Great Sphinx" actually is. It's a gigantic pyramid (human/animal characteristics) used as a tomb and made completely from sandstone. This pyramid along with two others are of a family lineage (Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, & Menakure). This sphinx that Beyonce is pictured with is Khafre's, and is smaller than that of his father Khufu (The Great Pyramid). It's also located in Giza, Egypt.

It baffles me how Beyonce can just fly over to Africa 2 look at the pyramids when she chooses, even if she's on tour overseas. Shoot, I wish!

Young Dro f/ Yung L.A. New Video && XXL's Jay-Z "Classic Lines"

I said the same thing you're prob thinkin' ("Where have they been?"). I don't know but, I'm glad their back on the scene. I can't even tell you the last Young Dro song I heard, && they STILL play "Ain't I" in the clubs. Why, I do not know. But, the two artists collaborated for the song/video "I Don't Know Ya'll" && I must say that I actually rock w/ it. It's a fun record. The video has a nice effect to it as well. Grand Hustle is back...I guess.

I'm fully aware that this video below does not pertain to anything above but, I saw it on XXL's site & thought it would be a nice post.

You have a favorite Jay-Z line? Well, so do many other people. Here's a clip of fans reciting or attempting to recite their favorite line from the Jigga Man. Some people actually had good lines, while others just needed to give it up. Funny stuff :)

Most Definitely: Wale is about to BLOW!!

I LOVE WALE. I rock with dude all day every day. Like I've said before, and I'll say it again, he is a fresh breath air that we drastically NEED in Hip-Hop. The album drops November 10th (next Tuesday) and although I'm a self-proclaimed "broke college student", I will, I REPEAT, WILL be copping this album.

Because the beginning of the BET's Hip-Hop awards bored me to death, I NEVER watched the entire show, meaning I missed Wale's performance. But, here it is below.

//Wale rips the stage w/ my joint "Pretty Girls"

Ok back to it.

//XXL's "Attention Deficit" Album Review
Wale's album is broken down, as well as how he got started in the game. The review compares Wale's rise to fame to President Obama, and states how he chooses to speak on other issues besides the ones usually covered (i.e money, women, jewelry).

EXCERPT: "What Wale manages to avoid is regurgitating the same frivolous concepts and mundane subject matter that so many rookies feast on. In fact, on the Ronson-helmed “90210,” he boldly touches on females suffering from bulimia and coke addictions (“She throws up whatever she eats/She leave the bathroom with her nose bleed/She live her whole life like TV/And she do anything for everything”)."

It's a pretty good read.

(Check out XXL's review
here)

Also, I strongly encourage that you preview the album
here. I'm telling you, these 30 second previews are on point! Wale is something that I have never heard from before & this definitely confirms that. If you do nothing at all, check this out.

Seriously, Dude is about to BLOW.

Once again the album drops next week TUESDAY!

Inspiration: Julie Greenwald, COO of Atlantic Records

While in the hair salon this past weekend, I picked up Elle magazine and discovered an interesting article on Julie Greenwald, whom prior to this year's VH-1 Hip Hop awards I did not know. Dubbed the most "powerful woman in the industry" by Elle, the article reveals a typical day of Greenwald. It's a very interesting read, if you haven't read it. Though the article was published June 2009, there is much to be learned from it.

[Greenwald(left) aside Kevin Liles]

//EXCERPT: "Greenwald is dressed down in a vintage ripped Cheap Trick T-shirt, skintight jeans, and Lanvin pumps. She has a street-tough New York accent and a rapid-fire speech pattern sprinkled with yos and dopes, a holdover from her ’90s stint as an up-and-coming executive at the independent hip-hop label Def Jam. Although she’s not a household name herself, Greenwald has spent her 17-year career as consigliere to some of the giants of contemporary music."
[I love the description of her outfit. Not too much but, just enough]

[Who is she?] She started off with Lyor Cohen && Russel Simmons with the original Def Jam Records dabbling in whatever she could get her hands on. She worked with artists such as LL Cool J, Run DMC (of course), & Public Enemy. And ever since then has been calling her own shots having being promoted recently to COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Atlantic Records.

//She's making moves...

What kept me interested to read the entire article was b/c it wasn't typical, and really focused on what makes her different.

I found it interesting that among the many distinct things in her office, including black and white pictures of her children, there was also a 'giant sheet of loose-leaf paper designed to look like a high school homework assignment' repeatedly stating "I'm still a good person", a mantra that keeps her motivated in the tough music industry.

Other Interesting Highlights of the interview:
1) Jay-Z listed her as "Cool Jules" in his pager in the '90s
2) She flies Economy, instead of First Class to save money
3) She comes from a Jewish background & always gave back to her community
4) Understands the music industry isn't what it used to be and believes ring-tones count as being "successful", contrary to others beliefs
5) Supported DMX with his raw music back in the day && initiated his tour w/ Onyx
6) Has been in the industry for 17 years && is still progressing

...She's just an all around positive image that we need to see. It doesn't matter what color you are, gender, nationality, or your background. If you're making moves like Julie, that says something about your character.

//Non-native Becomes Inspired..."Empire State of Mind" premiere

When I first saw the opening sequence to the highly anticipated video, Empire State of Mind, I was immediately drawn back to numerous videos in the past. Think back to Mary J. Blige's "Break Through" video, Jay-Z's opening to his "Fade to Black" documentary, or even more recently Trey Songz' "Invented Sex" opening. It's those bright lights that we are all so familiar, even if we're not native. Hailing from the South, I have only been to New York once. Yet, after viewing this video, I feel inspired.

Hype Williams directed the video, which is a no-brainer giving the execution of the video. Black and white videos [i.e., pictures, etc] are DOPE and will never go out of style. I love the images and the fact that it was shot in the streets, and not in some "bourgeoisie" location.

"In NY, concrete jungle where dreams are made from---." ...I'm a believer :)

*I'm aware that I haven't been posting as much. School kills again.
