Smoke Worthy: Da Brat - "Give It 2 You"

I tried to think of a more positive, yet suitable, title than "Smoke Worthy" but, I honestly can't. I've really wanted to start a category with music that's soo chill, the first thing that comes to mind is to smoke. Now, I don't smoke. Never have, && never will but, that's I how feel when I hear songs like this. It just relaxes you that's all. If you have a better title, I might consider it but, for now the title stays.

Ok, I was over at
Global14.com [JD's official blog] again, && he has this thing called 'So-So Def Classic Tuesday' where he posts [classic] videos from his label. This week's video was "Give It 2 You" from Da Brat's album Funkdafied. Being that I love this album [Man, it's in the car now], && the vibe of this song is just right, I decided to post it as well. If only I smoked....oh well, enjoy :)

[&& Check all the cameos in the video>>> Reminds me of MJ's "Liberian Girl" ]

Go ahead && vibe w/ me...

[I feel like I've been postin' so many videos but, this was so necessary.]

A Thousand Words: [Throwback] NBA Edition

Man, this picture had to be taken like mid 90's b/c everyone looks sooo young. It may not seem like much to tell from this picture but, when you point out each individual there's much to say.

For one, look at Kobe. He just won his 4th championship && is prob. the only one out of this whole picture that has done so. Him & Steve Nash [white guy on the right] are still w/ their original teams, which is amazing in the NBA [Tho, Nash did leave & come back to the Suns at one point.].

You gotta notice Ray Allen aka: Jesus Shuttlesworth. Ray still got game & I'm rooting for him & KG to take the Celtics to the TOP!

Then there's Stephon Marbury [Attention Whore] who has been all over the news w/ his Live streaming. He has been caught crying on tape, arguing w/ his sister, && dancing frolicking around his room! He looks like trouble in this picture.

[I wish I recognized more of the players but, I don't.]

What does this picture speak to you?

Not What It Used To Be

Remember, when male groups existed longer than this sentence? When they didn't fight over minuscule things and break up, leaving millions of fans into devastation before they even reached their peak? That was the 90's. I'm a music junkie & even though I was young, I've been listening to what they call 'baby making music' for the majority of my life. Two R&B groups notably recognized for this style of music were Silk & Jodeci. My mother didn't exactly put me on but, the cds I found through out the house definitely enhanced my interest.
I used to love the high notes the two guys in Silk could hit. && with Jodeci, I loved their whole swagger. The outfits, the boots, the shades, ad libs, all of it! Both groups knew how to serenade the ladies, not beg [Keith Sweat!]. Loved them.

Silk's Notable Songs:
1. Freak Me
2. I Can Go Deep
3. Lose Control
4. Meeting In My Bedroom
5. If You

Reminisce: [Silk - "Lose Control"]
Jodeci's Notable Songs:
1. Stay
2. Forever My Lady
3. Come & Talk To Me
4. Freakn' You
5. Feenin'

Reminisce: [Jodeci - "Forever My Lady"]

*BTW, every time I think/hear "Forever My Lady", I think about the episode "Forever Sheneneh"on Martin here. Check at the 1:25 mark, it's hilarious!

[You have to know at least 3 songs on each list. If you know them all, then you know EXACTLY where I'm coming from with this.]

Now, that I think about [& by the titles of their songs alone], I probably shouldn't have been listening to their music, esp. at the age I was.

Just a thought: Yes, Pretty Ricky had their shot at it & had a good little run w/ their career but, it will never be the same IMO.

A Thousand Words: 'Reigning Ladies'

Da Brat//Missy Elliot//Lil Kim//Aaliyah

They reigned the 90s's didn't they?
We need more women in the music industry [like them].

Da Brat hit us w/ my jam "Funkdafied" [which i still bump].
Missy Elliot declared respect w/ her "I can't stand the rain, against my window--"
Lil Kim held her own as the only female on Biggie's roster [still holdin it down].
&& Aaliyah [who everybody jocks to this day] gave us soul, esp. with her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But a Number. [We Miss You]

Enough of me, what does this picture speak to you?

Nostalgic Saturday: The House Party Edition

You didn't have a childhood if you didn't watch all of the House Party movies. Even though they kind of ran out on the last one [House Party4] w/ IMX, I still love them all. This is where the 90's came to life. I mean you have Kid 'N Play, Teisha Campbell [Gina from Martin], Martin, Bernie Mac, TLC, Immature...so many people! Too bad House Parties like these don't really exist!

Reminisce with me:

[House Party 2 - Dance scene w/ Kid 'N Play] Remember the dance Kid 'N Play did, that everyone copied & still do today? Reminisce at the 1:18 mark.

[House Party 3 - Funny dinner scene w/ Bernie Mac] This is EXACTLY why you don't bring just anyone to dinner. They will tell all your business & more!

[House Party 3 - Ex-Con Catering] Ezal from Friday is in this clip. Need I say more? But, I did laugh my butt off though.

[House Party 3 - w/ TLC & Immature performing] I adore TLC & Immature was soo young!

Remember the bright colored clothes & how Kriss Kross convinced people to wear their clothes backwards? I remember I use think I was 'All That!' as I wore thick scrunchies in my hair & my jumpers [overalls] with one strap hanging down. Instead of Facebook, recess was our social network. Dirt was our best friend [Ok, not like that!] && fortune tellers told our future.
How were you in the 90s?
